Former Mayor of Montego Bay

Glendon Harris

2012 – 2016

GH

Mayor of Montego Bay and chairman of the St. James Municipal Corporation, 2012 – 2016.

Glendon Harris gave the St. James council more than twenty-five years. He was first elected in 1990 and represented the Maroon Town Division, and the last four of those years, from 2012 to 2016, he spent as Mayor of Montego Bay and chairman of what was then the St. James Parish Council.

His term is most visible underfoot. The council ran a programme of rebuilding the city's sidewalks in interlocking brick, laid so that people who are physically challenged could actually use them, with places set aside along the way to sit and talk or read. Minor roads were taken on at the same time, with the stated aim of transforming the city rather than patching it.

He also expanded the council's mobile municipal wardens, who worked alongside the police to keep order across Montego Bay, and presided over the naming of city roads — including two named for the former Reggae Boy Theodore Whitmore in 2016.

There is no photograph of Glendon Harris that this site has the right to publish — a press picture of a living person belongs to the photographer who took it. If you hold one and can give us permission, we will use it.
