Mayor of Montego Bay and chairman of the St. James Municipal Corporation, 2016 – 2020.
Homer Davis was elected Mayor in December 2016 as councillor for the Cambridge Division, and spent his four years on a job he described himself as a rescue mission: the corporation's standing with the public had taken several hits, and he set out to raise it.
The practical work of his term was water and land. He pushed to get water into divisions across St. James that did not reliably have it, and moved to complete the long-running sale of the Bogue Industrial Estate property. He also worked closely with the St. James Health Department through two outbreaks — dengue fever, and then COVID-19 as it reached the parish in 2020.
He saw through the renaming of Quebec Avenue as Dr Horace Chang Boulevard, calling it a fitting tribute.
In September 2020 he stood down as Mayor, having been elected Member of Parliament for St. James Southern — the first Montego Bay mayor to go from the chair of the corporation to a seat in the House and then to a ministerial appointment, as Minister of State in the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development.
There is no photograph of Homer Davis that this site has the right to publish — a press picture of a living person belongs to the photographer who took it. If you hold one and can give us permission, we will use it.
